What is Aikido?
Aikido is a modern martial art developed in Japan in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, known as Ō-Sensei (“great teacher”). It is non-competitive and uses the principle of neutralising attacks with a combination of circular movements, throws, locks and pins. Aikido can be translated as ‘The Way of Harmonising Energy’.

Ai, meaning “joining” or “harmonising”
Ki, meaning “breath” or “energy”
Dō, meaning “way” or “path”

Teachers
The dojo instructor is Pierre Mouthuy (2nd dan, Fukushidoin). He has studied Aikido with Chris Mooney Shihan (7th dan) since 2007.
Throughout the year, we participate in regular courses with Mooney Sensei and other senior teachers from the British Aikikai (Birankai) and other Aikido organisations. These are great opportunities to learn from various Aikido teachers and styles.
